Sock it to Dirt this Year with #Liquidmuscle #ad

This New Year cleaning resolution tips post is brought to you by Mr. Clean as part of a Type-A Parent Community Sponsored Post.

A new year means out with the old and in with the new. I don’t wait until spring to start cleaning my house of clutter. It’s amazing how things pile up in no time. Magazines you’ve saved to clip recipes or articles for later. Plastic bowls from takeout Chinese and deli salads stacked in a cupboard.
That doesn’t mean I just throw things away. I try to recycle whatever I can.
Old cotton socks for example, make great cleaning rags. I like to slip socks over my hands. Even if they have a hole or two you can still use them. A sock gives you much better control than wiping with a rag. You can get in cracks and crevices with your fingers as you clean. Cleaning with socks also can save your manicure!

I bake a lot. One thing I love to do is color frosting. Sometimes those liquid colors can stain. They’re not the easiest thing to get off your counter or your hands.
This is where a multi-purpose cleaner comes in “handy”!

I just slip on the sock and add a few drops. You can also mix it with water for bigger jobs like floors.
Mr. Clean 2
Wipe away the marks and rinse.
Mr. Clean 3
It cleaned the sock too when I rinsed it but it is not recommended for fabrics.
Mr. Clean 4
A nice clean counter! Now I can go on to other things knowing if I spill food coloring, I’m covered. I won’t need to hide the counter with my dish drainer!
Mr. Clean 5

You can also use clean, damp socks the same way to gently wipe dust off houseplants, too!

This year I’m going to try to organize more efficiently. I plan to only save a few plastic bowls for leftovers. If I’m short, I’ll use a snap-closed style bag.
I’ll clip which articles and recipes I want to save and file them then recycle the magazine/newspaper or save the information online.
Remember when you clean out your clothes drawers to save those socks!

Chicken Barley Soup for #WeekdaySupper

Chicken Barley Soup

Sunday Supper Movement

It is officially winter here. Soup weather has arrived! I’m a soup nut so I’m in my element. Okay, in reality I do eat it all year long but now I don’t need to sit by the air conditioner to eat it. 😉
Soups can be hearty without being heavy or high in calories. That’s why on a cold, busy weeknight a warm bowl of soup is such a welcome sight at my house.

Chicken Barley Soup fits the bill.

I use cooked chicken and quick cook barley so this nourishing soup prepares fast without sacrificing taste. I also like my vegetables on the crisp tender side. That saves time too.

Ingredients
  • • 3 cups cooked chicken
  • • 1 cup chopped carrots
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 cups chicken stock
  • 1 cup quick cook barley
  • 4 cups arugula
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
  1. Heat stock. Sauté carrots, celery and onion in oil until crisp cooked. Add 2 cups of the stock and garlic. Reduce heat and simmer until desired consistency. Add vegetables to stock pot.
  2. While vegetables cook, prepare barley. Bring 2 cups of broth to a boil. Add barley, cover and simmer for 8 to minutes.
  3. Add barley and chicken to stock and vegetables. Add arugula and cook just until arugula wilts (about 2 minutes).
  4. Serve alone or with crackers or crusty bread.
