Game Day around here means at any given time you could be watching Pro football, college bowls, hockey or basketball. My guy loves them all. Sure he has some favorite teams and all-time favorite players, like Walter Payton from the Chicago Bears, but in general, it’s about the game.
I’m not saying he’s a couch potato. He’s also a runner when not watching sports, logging in an average of 12 miles per run.
Me on the other hand I stay neutral when it comes to sports.

No matter what sport is on the TV there will be food and drinks involved. That is my department.
Barbecue fills the bill on such occasions. You can pile on as much or as little as you want. I’ll make a crock of Sloppy Joes or Pulled Pork BBQ with ciabatta, onion or Kaiser rolls. Serve it up with some snacks and drinks and it is party time!
When I learned that Gallo Family Vineyards was joining us around the table this week for Sunday Supper, I wanted to make something special.
I love their White Merlot and I wanted to create a barbecue that pairs well with its medium-bodied sweetness. Gallo describes their White Merlot as being like, “A family reunion of all the flavors of the Merlot grape including ripe plum, blueberry, and hints of cranberry but in a lighter bodied, brighter style.” They go on to say that their White Merlot pairs well with spicy foods and sweet and smoky glazed ham.
Perfect!

I decided to make a ham barbecue with a horseradish and chili based sauce, topped with creamy cole slaw.
