Lox and Cream Cheese Mini Omelettes #SundaySupper

lox and cream cheese omelet
lox omelet whole

Say,”Cheese please!” This week Sunday Supper spotlights all things cheesy. No, not cheap, unpleasant, or blatantly inauthentic (thank you Merriam-Webster) but glorious, tasty, everything-tastes-better-with cheese.

Thank you Angie from http://www.bigbearswife.com/ for hosting this event.

One cheese dish that came to mind was from back in my deli days. Breakfast specialties were omelettes of all kinds sizzling in the pans. Sunday’s brought leisurely diners stopping by after church to eat together. Regulars of all religons patronized the little deli but one omelet stood out as a customer favorite. We only made this on Sundays using the freshest smoked salmon my boss could find. I’d slice it paper thin, almost see-through for lox and cream cheese bagels, and of course for our Sunday Special Lox and Onion Omelette with Cream Cheese.

This isn’t as much a recipe as it is flavor combination. I used Nova lox smoked salmon, which is less saltly and lighter cured than traditional smoked salmon we used to call, “belly salmon”. Any New Yorkers in the audience that can help a PA girl out by letting me know if its still Nova verses Belly wars out there?

You can make these omelettes any size you wish. For a mini omelette I used one egg whisked with a little milk.

lox omelet ingredients

    Ingredients per omelette

  • 1 egg whisked with a little milk (about a teaspoon)
  • 1 teaspoon chopped lox
  • 1 teaspoon chopped red onion
  • 1 teaspoon chopped tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon cream cheese
  • capers, optional

Method

Spray a small skillet with cooking spray.

Saute onion, lox and tomatoes for about 1 minute over medium-high heat.

Foodie Friends Friday LInky Party #34 with Woolzies Dryer Balls

Welcome to Foodie Friends Friday!

Woolzies Promo
This week features our reviews and a giveaway (3 total) from our sponsor Woolzies Dryer Balls. What does wool dryer balls have to do with a food blog?
If you don’t know me well yet, let me tell you. I’m a huge proponent of all natural and organic alternatives across the board from the food I serve at home to gardening products, cleansers and pet care. So when Woolzie Dryer Balls were named our sponsor this week I couldn’t wait to try them out.
Six all natural wool balls come in the package. Don’t let the fact that the balls are made out of wool, scare you. They are safe to use even if you have a wool allergy.
All six balls go into the dryer at one time. The action of the balls tossing around, over and under the clothes lets air circulate. This action helps clothes dry faster and saves you money on dryer sheets and shortens time saving electricity. Constant air circulation keeps wrinkles at a minimum.
I used the ball system several times while drying my towels and my towels did dry a bit faster. I wanted a second opinion, so I gave my Woolzies to a friend who absolutely loves them!

You can enter the giveaway below for one of three chances to win a set of your own Woolzies!

Cloves Know Your Herbs and Spices

Remember oranges and apples covered in cloves? We would take an orange or apple and pierce it with a bazillion tiny clove spikes. You gave your new air freshener to Mom as a Mother’s day, Birthday or Christmas gift. That clove ball made the entire house smell so good!
Cloves are dried flower buds originating on an evergreen tree. The buds are picked just before the flowers open.

Come join me for this week’s Know Your Herbs and Spices at Daily Dish and check out what this spice has to offer.
