Bye Bye Crazy Summer

It has been a crazy summer here in PA! Drought, rain, earthquake, floods, hail storms, heat waves, and blackouts! Can’t wait to see what fall brings! Maybe sunshine?

So you want to be a gardener?

Why would you want to be a gardener? Its a dirty job. One that even Mike Rowe avoids doing a segment about.
What’s that? You like the feel of the soil between your fingers? You think gloves are for sissies? (me too)
Okay, I’ll buy the whole, “I like to know where my food comes from and how its grown” aspect of gardening. Besides, gardening can be a hobby to share with family and friends, a stress reliever or an escape from the day to day grind.
So go for it! Try growing something new. Remember if you don’t like it, you can always change it next year!

Funny Bunny

Future Easter Bunny?

Could this little guy be a future bearer of delicious baskets? He definitely didn’t mind getting his picture taken!
Let’s call a truce between bunnies and farmers for a little while.
While we waiting, we can think of ways to “bunny proof” our home gardens. Try installing rabbit fencing. Remember to “plant” the fence deep enough to discourage digging bunnies. Plant “catch crops” along the fence for the most determined bunnies to eat instead of your prized cabbage! Don’t forget to monitor your fencing and garden on a regular basis.
